OTHER HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NEW POLL:
Health care: Solid majorities of California Democrats and independents believe that congressional Republicans should work to improve the Affordable Care Act, while Republicans are split on whether Congress should improve existing law (41 percent) or keep trying to repeal it (45 percent).
DACA: After President Donald Trump’s announcement that he would phase out the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program, 78 percent of those surveyed said they supported extending protections and work permits to young people who were brought to the country illegally as children. Support for DACA cut across party lines, with 90 percent of Democrats, 77 percent of independents and 61 percent Republicans favoring it. Nuclear scare: Half of California adults are very concerned that North Korea has a nuclear missile that could reach California, and another 28 percent are somewhat concerned. Russian meddling: Two-thirds of Californians surveyed consider the possibility that Russia meddled in the 2016 election a serious issue, while 31 percent consider it a distraction. Trump approval ratings: Californians have remained consistent in their dim view of the president, with just 27 percent approving of his performance. But 51 percent say they are paying more attention to politics than before he was elected. Among California Republicans, Trump’s approval rating is 70 percent.
