RAIDERS AT KANSAS CITY

- — Jerry McDonald

Kickoff: 5:25 p.m. TV: CBS, NFL Network THREE KEYS

Power up: A return to top form by the offensive line would cure a lot of ills against the Chiefs. There have been hints the past two games the running game is close to clicking with Marshawn Lynch, with the Raiders either unwilling or unable to see it through. It was two weeks shy of a year ago when the Raiders line had a national coming-out party in a 30-20 win over Denver on Sunday night. Something similar against the Chiefs would have the ripple effect of making Derek Carr more comfortable, keeping the defense off the field and taking control of the game. Vadal Alexander will replace the injured Marshall Newhouse at right tackle for the Raiders.

NaVorro’s juice: Time will tell whether NaVorro Bowman can be a reasonable facsimile of what he was with the 49ers. Bowman said he hasn’t retired because he’s only 29 and has plenty of “juice” left. He’ll certainly have it for his debut under the lights and wearing his No. 53 with a new uniform. If Bowman can make a big hit or two early, it could provide the kind of jolt the Raiders need to deliver on defense. In six games, the Raiders have given up 20 or fewer points four times.

Giveaway/takeaway: The Chiefs historically have thrived in this area dating back to the Marty Schottenheimer days. They tied with the Raiders at plus-16 to lead the NFL a year ago and are on schedule to be solid again at plus-7, ranked No. 3. The Raiders, meanwhile, are at minus-2 and are the last team in the NFL without an interception. It won’t be easy to get one against the Chiefs as Alex Smith has yet to throw one to the wrong jersey. But it’s way overdue and a necessary development if the Raiders are to win.
