SAN BRUNO >> An Uber driver was shot on Interstate 380 in San Bruno overnight Sunday shortly after picking up two passengers at San Francisco International Airport, according to the California Highway Patrol and media reports.

The female Uber driver was in a Toyota Camry with two passengers on westbound I-380 when gunshots were fired at about 11:10 p.m., according to CHP Officer Vu Williams. The Uber driver had just picked up two passengers at the airport, according to ABC7.

The woman was shot in the neck and crashed just east of the El Camino Real exit, according to ABC7.

The driver was taken to a hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, Williams said. The passengers were not injured.

A second car was also shot multiple times. The people inside the second car ran away before the California Highway Patrol arrived, Williams said.

Police closed westbound 380 for several hours.

The CHP has not yet determined a motive for the shooting, Williams said.

“We’re still trying to figure that out,” Williams said.

This was the second shooting of an Uber driver in just over two weeks in the Bay Area.

On Oct. 8, an Uber driver and two passengers were hospitalized after someone in another car opened fire on Interstate 880 in Oakland in what CHP investigators described as a “targeted attack.”

CHP officers responded around 4:15 a.m. to reports of a shooting in the southbound lanes of the freeway near 23rd Avenue, said CHP Sgt. Robert Nacke.

The partygoers were on their way home in a Toyota Highlander when someone started shooting at the passengers, though Nacke said it wasn’t immediately clear why they were targeted. The Uber driver is not believed to have been an intended target, he said.
