FRANCE: Antioch’s Beatty family visited Paris in April with, from left, Jennifer, who is attending UC San Diego, Teresa, an English teaching assistant in Chateaulin, France, and Christopher, Katherine, Brian and Nellie.

TRAVEL TIPS: “First, do not exit the Metro at the Eiffel Tower stop,” Nellie says. “Exit one before or one after. Walk to the plaza to get this photo. You will miss the crowds and then can walk to the tower for closer photos. Second, do not buy the multiday pass. For our family, it was more economical to buy passes 20Ä at a time.” TEXAS: Antioch resident Greg Pacquer attended the 15th Van Cliburn Piano Competition, which is held every four years in Fort Worth, this spring. TRAVEL TIPS: “To get around downtown, hop on the Molly Trolly, which is free and you can get on and off at many locations,” Greg says. “Check out the cultural district with many great art museums. A little ways out of town you can go to the bureau of engraving and see where your paper money is made. The newly renovated Sundance Square, with its great water feature, is a great place to sit and relax. Do not miss the old stockyards with cattle drives each day.”

KENTUCKY: San Jose residents Jarrod, Michael and Nick Pagan traveled the Kentucky Bourbon Trail in June, with stops at distilleries throughout the state, including the Buffalo Trace Distillery, pictured. “Full tours or just tastings are available — a few require reservations,” Michael says. “Most full tours are an hour or slightly longer, very informative and interesting, and include tastings at the conclusion. Our top spots were Woodford Reserve in the bluegrass racehorse area, Maker’s Mark, Heaven Hill and the Evan Williams Experience in downtown Louisville, where we were based. We visited eight distilleries in two days.” TRAVEL TIPS: “June can bring wet yet warm weather so be prepared. A must for baseball fans is the Louisville Slugger factory and museum in downtown Louisville.”
