“The Star” (PG): A brave donkey and his animal friends become unsung heroes of the first Christmas. With the voices of Steven Yeun, Kristin Chenoweth, Zachary Levi and Gina Rodriguez. Directed by Timothy Reckart.

Martin McDonagh. Opens this week in San Francisco only; expands in the Bay Area Nov. 22.

“Wonder” (PG): Adapted from a New York Times best-seller, this fact-based drama tells the story of August Pullman, a boy with facial difference­s who attends a mainstream elementary school for the first time when entering fifth grade. With Julia Roberts, Jacob Tremblay and Owen Wilson. Co-written and directed by Stephen Chbosky.
