Davis overcomes six-shot deficit, wins Aussie Open
Cameron Davis came from six shots behind going into the final round to win the Australian Open in Sydney by one stroke on Sunday (Australia time), shooting a 7-under 64 that included a birdie on the 18th and an eagle after holing a 100-meter approach shot.
The 22-year-old Australian finished with an 11-under total of 273 at The Australian Golf Club, where gusty and unpredictable afternoon winds made scoring tough for all four rounds.
“I didn’t know where I was, to be honest, after the third round,” Davis said of his six-stroke deficit. “I’m just glad I did enough today to get the job done.”
Sweden’s Jonas Blixt, who missed a 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th that would have forced a playoff, shot 68 to finish tied for second with Matt Jones (68) while third-round leader Jason Day was fifth after a 73, three strokes behind.

Japan’s Satoko Miyahara topped the Skate America short program in Lake Placid, New York, a promising sign for the 19-yearold Olympic hopeful following a hip injury this year. Fremont’s Karen Chen, the reigning U.S. champion, is ninth.
Miyahara, the three-time national champion, missed Four Continents and worlds because of her hip, then finished fifth in the Grand Prix event in Japan. Her score of 70.72 beat out Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto at 69.40 and Canada’s Gabrielle Daleman at 68.08.
American Bradie Tennell is fourth at 67.01 in the 19-year-old’s Grand Prix debut. Ashley Wagner is sixth and Chen ninth to round out U.S. skaters.
It was an otherwise strong day for the Americans. Nathan Chen and Adam Rippon finished 1-2 in the men’s competition to punch Final tickets, and ice dancers Maia and Alex Shibutani lead after the short dance.

College football NEBRASKA FIRES RILEY
Chip Kelly is back, Mike Riley is out and Scott Frost is a wanted man.
UCLA announced it had hired Kelly, the former Oregon coach, and Nebraska fired Riley within about 15 minutes of each other, closing one high-profile search after less than a week and officially opening another.
With Kelly off the board, one of his former assistants at Oregon becomes the most-sought after coach on the market. Frost is in his second season as UCF coach after leaving the Ducks. He has the 13thranked Knights 11-0 and heading to the American Athletic Conference championship game next week against No. 17 Memphis and coach Mike Norvell, who is also expected to draw interest from Power Five schools with openings, such as Ole Miss and Arkansas.
Frost figures to be the next focus for Florida, where athletic director Scott Stricklin said he was looking for a coach who could bring offensive excitement back to Gainesville. UCF is the highest-scoring team in the country.

Rebensburg won her second straight World Cup giant slalom by edging Shiffrin, the overall points leader.
The German finished two runs on Killington’s Superstar trail in 1 minute, 57.63 seconds, with Shiffrin 0.67 back. Manuela Moelgg of Italy held on for third, 1.49 seconds off the lead.
