SAN JOSE » A San Jose man was found shot to death near a Berryessa business park in North San Jose early Sunday, but there were scant details about the circumstances of the attack, according to police.

The victim was Jose Ricardo Munoz Ruiz, 24, according to the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office.

San Jose police officers were called at 4:28 a.m. to the 2100 block of Ringwood Avenue for a report that someone discovered a body behind a building and next to a commercial trash bin, Officer Gina Tepoorten said.

They arrived to find Munoz Ruiz suffering from at least one gunshot wound, Tepoorten said. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Details about the shooting were not immediately available Sunday. Tepoorten said police got a call from a family member of the victim reporting the shooting, but that came after the initial body-discovery call. She added that police received no calls reporting the actual gunfire, or any violence preceding that initial call.

The deadly shooting marked the city’s 29th homicide of the year, a number that does not include a fatal stabbing last week that occurred in an unincorporated part of San Jose.

Anyone with information about the case can contact the SJPD homicide unit at 408-277-5283.
