Landale scores 33 in SMC’s OT loss

Jock Landale had 33 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as Saint Mary’s lost 83-81 in overtime to Georgia in the thirdplace game of the Wooden Legacy tournament in Fullerton.

The loss capped a tough weekend for the 2st-ranked Gaels, who were upset by Washington State on Friday.

The Gaels (5-2) took a 7169 lead on a Landale basket with 26 seconds to play, but Georgia scored with 12 seconds left to force overtime.

Georgia’s Tyree Crump came off the bench for a team-high 17 points, including a three-point basket that put the Bulldogs (5-1) ahead 83-79.

Emmett Naar had 21 points for Saint Mary’s. PORTLAND STATE 87, STANFORD 78 >> Reid Travis had 28 points and 14 rebounds but the Cardinal fell to the Vikings in a PK80 tournament seventh-place game at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon.

Deontae North had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead the hometown Vikings (5-2). Stanford (3-5) led by as many as 14 points in the first half.

DUKE 87, FLORIDA 84 >> Marvin Bagley had 30 points and 15 rebounds to help rally the No. 1 Blue Devils past the No. 7 Gators for the Motion Bracket championsh­ip at the Phil Knight Invitation­al tournament.

Florida led by as many as 17 points midway through the second half before Duke rallied.

MICHIGAN STATE 63, NORTH CAROLINA 45 >> Joshua Lanford made five 3-pointers and scored 23 points and the No. 4 Spartans (5-1) toppled the No. 9 Tar Heels (5-1) to win the “Victory Bracket” of the PK80 Invitation­al.

TEXAS A&M 75, USC 59 >> D.J. Hogg scored 15 points and the No. 16 Aggies (7-0) pulled away for good with a 19-3 run in the second half to beat the 10th-ranked Trojans (4-1).

GONZAGA 76, TEXAS 71 >> Rui Hachimura came off the bench to score a careerhigh 20 points, Josh Perkins added 15 points and the No. 17 Bulldogs blew a 21-point second half lead before putting away the Longhorns in overtime in a consolatio­n game at the PK80 Invitation­al.

UCLA 87, UC IRVINE 63 >> Prince Ali scored 16 of his career-high 21 points in the first half and the No. 23 Bruins (5-1) beat UC Irvine.

Women

OHIO STATE 94, STANFORD 82 (SATURDAY) >> Alanna Smith led Stanford (43) with a career-high 33 points and 16 rebounds while Anna Wilson scored 21, but it wasn’t enough as the No. 14 Cardinal (4-3) lost to the No. 9 Buckeyes (7-1) in overtime late Saturday night.

FLORIDA STATE 87, SAMFORD 62 >> Shakayla Thomas scored 29 points and the No. 13 Seminoles (6-0) rolled to a victory over the Bulldogs (2-4).
