Cal falls behind early, never recovers

- By The Associated Press

Cal struggled at home Wednesday night, falling 96-69 to Central Arkansas at Haas Pavilion in the first-ever meeting between the schools.

Don Coleman scored 20 points to lead Cal (5-5), and Marcus Lee added 11 points, five rebounds and four blocks.

The game was sloppy on both sides early before Central Arkansas went on a 24-6 run to take control.

Cal made only two buckets over the final 11 minutes of the first half and committed a season-high 22 turnovers in the game — one more than they had made baskets (21).

“Major, major setback,” Cal coach Wyking Jones said. “We have to go back and figure it out. We’re young but we can’t keep using that as an excuse. We’re better than we showed tonight.”

Jordan Howard scored 26 points, including five 3-pointers, and had six assists, as Central Arkansas bounced back from losses Arkansas-Little Rock and USF by a combined eight points to rout the Bears.

LOYOLA-CHICAGO 63, FLORIDA 59 >> Aundre Jackson scored 23 points, Cameron Krutwig added 14, and the visiting Ramblers (9-1) stunned the fifth-ranked Gators (5-3), handing them a third consecutive loss.
