49ERS VS. TEXANS
SITE: NRG Stadium KICKOFF: 10a.m. TV: Fox, Dick Stockton, Mark Schlereth, Shannon Spake
RADIO: 680 AM & 107.7 FM, Ted Robinson, Tim Ryan
THREE KEYS
1. Sack Savage: Texans quarterback Tom Savage is 1-4 since replacing the injured Deshaun Watson, and he’s highly prone to turnovers this season (seven fumbles, six interceptions). He threw for a career-high 365yards last game, but he got sacked four times. With left tackle Julien Davenport out and left guard Xavier Su’a-Filo playing with a groin injury, look for pressure from DeForest Buckner, Solomon Thomas, Cassius Marsh and Elvis Dumervil.
2. Stay hot offensively:
Jimmy Garoppolo wasn’t alone in having a positive game last Sunday in Chicago. The offensive line had one of its best outings all year, and the receivers were near perfect. Assuming
the 49ers can’t replicate all that success, they’ll need help elsewhere. Running backs Carlos Hyde and Matt Breida, as well as tight ends Garrett Celek and George Kittle, are due for more production.
3. Minimize Texans’ playmakers: Unlike the Bears, the Texans have gamechanging threats on both sides of the ball. The 49ers offense must track Jadeveon Clowney (nine sacks) wherever he lines up, and the 49ers defense must not let DeAndre Hopkins shred their secondary. Also, the 49ers improved run defense cannot let Lamar Miller get in a flow.
INJURIES 49ers: Questionable: RT Trent Brown (shoulder)
Texans: Out: RB Alfred Blue (concussion), LT Julien Davenport (shoulder), WR Braxton Miller (concussion), LB Jelani Jenkins (concussion); Questionable: LG Xavier Su’a-Filo (groin).
