Islanders end skid, snap Washington’s win streak

Jaroslav Halak made 31 saves and the New York Islanders beat the Washington Capitals 3-1 on Monday night to snap a three-game winless streak. Brock Nelson, Andrew Ladd and John Tavares scored goals for the Islanders, who built a 3-0 lead early in the second period and ended Washington’s four-game winning streak.

DUCKS 3, HURRICANES 2 » Logan Shaw had a goal and an assist, and Jakob Silfverber­g returned from a fivegame injury absence to score the tiebreakin­g goal late in the second period for the Ducks, who won for just the third time in 11 games.

The injury-plagued team was boosted by the simultaneo­us returns of Silfverber­g and captain Ryan Getzlaf, who had missed 19 games after getting hit in the face with a puck. But then the Ducks lost forward Corey Perry to a potentiall­y serious lower-body injury in the first period.

Rick Nash tied it for the Rangers when he tipped in Brady Skjei’s wrist shot with 3:41 left in regulation. PANTHERS 2, RED WINGS 1, (OT) » Mike Matheson scored his first goal of the season, and Florida won in overtime for the first time this season.
