Suspects in the violent home-invasion robbery of a Los Gatos man were caught in the Central Valley about 10 hours after the victim was attacked by five intruders early Wednesday, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim, who is in his 50s and was alone at the time, suffered head injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition, authorities said.

The Sheriff’s Office announced around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday that the victim’s car was recovered in Modesto by the county’s Regional Auto Theft Task Force, and that “multiple individuals” were in custody, but their identities were not immediately released. Officers also recovered two handguns.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Glennon said investigators were working to determine the ties between the car’s occupants and the home robbery, which was was reported just after 4 a.m. in the 19000 block of Bainter Avenue in unincorporated Los Gatos.

An initial investigation found that four men and one woman forced their way into the home and demanded valuables, and physically assaulted the homeowner. The suspects were armed with at least one handgun, Glennon said.

It was not immediately known if the house was targeted or chosen randomly. Glennon said there was not immediate evidence to suggest that the victim recognized or knew his attackers.

After the intruders left the home, the injured man ran to a neighbor’s home for help, and the neighbor called 911, Glennon said.
