Stanford gets first road sweep since ’10

One-time Washington commit Daejon Davis returned to his hometown and had 16 points, Reid Travis also finished with 16 points, and Stanford completed its first twogame road sweep in conference play in nearly eight years with a 73-64 win over Washington on Saturday night.

The Cardinal had not won both games of a Pac12 trip since sweeping the Oregon schools in February 2010. Stanford (10-8, 4-1 Pac-12), which won at Washington State on Thursday, has won four in a row.

Michael Humphrey had 13 points and nine rebounds, and Kezie Okpala added 10 points for the Cardinal.

Davis was the star, playing a few miles from where he was a prep star at Garfield High School and on the court he was originally slated to play collegiate­ly. Davis de-committed from Washington after Lorenzo Romar was fired last March and instead ended up at Stanford.

Davis was the subject of boos and chants from Washington fans throughout, but he silenced those same fans hitting a 3-pointer with 3:23 left to push Stanford’s lead to 65-60. Davis added 10 rebounds and five assists.

Jaylen Nowell led Washington (13-5, 3-2) with 20 points. SAINT MARY’S 91, PEPPERDINE 67 >> Jock Landale scored 32 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help lead the Gales (17-2, 6-0 West Coast Conference) to their 12th-straight win.

It was Landale’s 10th double-double this seaso. Jordan Ford added 20 points, Tanner Krebs had 16 points and seven rebounds and Emmett Naar dished 14 assists in addition to his five points.

Saint Mary’s plays at Gonzaga (16-3, 6-0) on Thursday night.

• Gonzaga kept pace with SMC by winning 7565 at USF on Saturday. The Dons were short-handed without second-leading scorer Chase Foster (ankle) and Taavi Jurkatamm (concussion). WASHINGTON STATE 78, CAL

53>> The Bears (7-11, 1-4) kept things close early, but were undone by a 13-1 run early in the second half by a Cougars team that entered winless in Pac-12 play and was 8-8 overall.

The Bears have dropped four straight and there is little hope on the horizon. The Bears next play the Arizona schools, both ranked among the Top 20, and then head to south to play UCLA and USC.

The Bears trailed 37-34 early in the second half, but scored only eight points the final 10 minutes.

Cal was led by two freshmen: Justice Sueing (14 points, 8 rebounds) and Juhwan Harris-Dyson (10 points, 11 rebounds). AIR FORCE 78, SAN JOSE STATE 71 >> The Spartans rallied from an 18-point first-half deficit and led 51-50 with just over nine minutes remaining, but the Falcons pulled away in the final minutes to send SJSU to its sixth-straight loss.

Ryan Welage had 17 points and Jalen James scored 13 for the Spartans (3-14, 0-6 Mountain West), who have lost 11 of their last 12. was looking for its first win over a No. 1 team in 33 years. TEXAS TECH 72, WEST VIRGINIA 71 >> Keenan Evans scored 20 points, Brandone Francis had a career-high 17 and the No. 8 Red Raiders won the firstever Top 10 matchup on its home court, snapping the No 2 Mountainee­rs’ nation-leading 15-game winning streak.

Evans hit a lean-in jumper to give the Red Raiders (15-2, 4-1 Big 12) a four-point lead in the final minute and send the first sellout crowd of the season into a frenzy. FORCE 74 >> Myzhanique Ladd had 13 rebounds and 15 points, including two free throws with six seconds left, and Taylor Turney scored 14 of her teamhigh 17 points in the second half as the Spartans (6-11, 3-3) held on to send the Falcons to their 16th straight loss. SAINT MARY’S 75, PEPPERDINE 62 >> Megan McKay scored 28 points and Sydney Raggio had a doubledoub­le to lead the Gaels (12-5, 5-1 WCC) to their fifth-straight win. BYU 65, SANTA CLARA 47 >> Morgan McGwire scored a season-high 23 points, but the Broncos were undone by the Cougars’ hot shooting from 3-point range.

The Broncos (5-12, 1-5 WCC) got within 38-34 with four minutes left in the third. But BYU answered with a 12-2 run to close the period.

GONZAGA 74, USF 47 >> Anna Seilund joined the career 1,000-point club and Anna Pierce led all scorers a career-high with 16 points in the Dons’ road loss.
