With the name they have chosen for their new daughter, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West could very well launch a trend of other couples naming their baby girls after this midwestern city. They have chosen to call their 4-day-old infant Chicago. Kardashian announced the name on her app by simply posting “Chicago West,” TMZ reported. But the entertainment power couple weren’t just arbitrarily looking for baby name inspiration from any major American metropolis. It just so happens that Chicago is rapper West’s hometown. The girl was born Monday morning via surrogate, Kardashian announced Tuesday. “Kanye and I are happy to announced the arrival of our beautiful baby girl,” Kardashian said in a statement. She added that the girl is a healthy 7 pounds, 6 ounces. It’s been reported that the couple hired a 27-year-old San Diego-area woman to be their surrogate. The birth reportedly took place at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center near Beverly Hills. The hospital is known as the preferred place for Hollywood celebrities to give birth, and it’s the facility where the couple welcomed Chicago’s big sister North, 4, and older brother Saint, 2. And now that Chicago is here, it will be interesting to see if there will be more Chicagos turning up in the Social Security Administration’s lists of popular baby names. It turns out that Chicago is a pretty unusual name for a baby, which might please Kim and Kanye, who like to think of themselves as always being ahead of the curve on matters of popular culture. According to Social Security, Chicago is not in the top 1000 names for girls or boys for any year of birth since 2000. Of course that could all change. But Kardashian and West aren’t pioneering the idea of naming a son or daughter after a city, according to Babycenter. com. “Place names are hot! It just goes to show that even though you’re having a baby, far-flung cities can still be part of your world,” the site reads. According to the site, popular city names for girls include Adelaide, Aspen, Cheyenne, Helena, Juno (after Juneau, Alaska?), Sydney, and Verona; for boys, Francisco and Orlando. Certain unisex names also are popular: Berlin, Bristol, Brooklyn, Dallas, Jackson, London, Paris, Phoenix and Rome.
