McPhee helps Stanford surge past Trojans

Brittany McPhee scored 10 of her 12 points in the final 6 minutes, and the Stanford women erased a 14-point secondhalf deficit in defeating host USC 59-55 on Friday night and moving into a first-place tie in the Pac-12.

McPhee’s 3-point play gave Stanford (12-7, 6-1 Pac-12) a 52-51 lead with three minutes left, its first lead since late in the first quarter. USC’s Sadie Edwards tied it at 55-all with 41 seconds left before McPhee scored again with 25 seconds remaining. Aliyah Mazyck made four 3-pointers and scored 20 points for the Trojans (13-5, 3-4).

UCLA 60, CAL 52 >> Cal (13-5, 4-3 Pac-12) was forced to play without Kristine Anigwe, the team’s leading scorer and the Pac-12’s top rebounder, for nearly six minutes spanning the third and fourth quarters after she picked up her fourth foul, and the No. 13 Bruins held off the 21stranked Bears (14-4, 5-2) in Los Angeles. Anigwe, who has 36 career double-doubles, was denied one this night, finishing with 14 points and five rebounds in 27 minutes.

OREGON STATE 85, OREGON 79 >> Kat Tudor made seven 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 34 points, and the No. 18 Beavers (14-4, 5-2 Pac-12) snapped the No. 7 Ducks’ (17-3, 6-1) nine-game winning streak. Marie Gulich added 28 points and 15 rebounds for the Beavers. Sabrina Ionescu had a career-high 35 points for visiting Oregon, including a 3-pointer near the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.

Men

MICHIGAN STATE 85, INDIANA 57 >> Miles Bridges scored 22 points, and Nick Ward had 18 points and 13 rebounds to help the ninth-ranked Spartans bounce back with a home win over the Hoosiers. The Spartans (17-3, 5-2 Big Ten) had a confidence­boosting performanc­e. They were slumping after a 16-point loss at Ohio State, an overtime win over Rutgers and a setback to Michigan at home. The Hoosiers (11-8, 4-3) lost for the first time in four games.
