Cattrall, Parker feud turns ugly
If you’re a fan of “Sex and the City’s” portrait of enduring female friendship, you might be taken aback by what’s going between Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker. But the animosity between the two has deep roots.
After Cattrall announced Feb. 4 that her brother Christopher Cattrall was found dead in Canada, Parker seemed to reach out with a compassionate note on Cattrall’s Instagram post, writing: “Dearest Kim, my love and condolences to you and yours and Godspeed to your beloved brother. Xx.”
Cattrall, 61, shot back on Saturday, telling Parker her condolences were not appreciated.
Cattrall wrote: “My mom asked me today ‘When will that @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?’ Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already.) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”
Tension between Cattrall and Parker has long been known. In her Instagram post, Cattrall linked to an October New York Post story that said the tension between her and Parker stemmed from the alleged toxic, “mean-girls” environment on the “Sex and the City” sets. The HBO comedy about four Manhattan socialites enjoyed a successful run on TV between 1998 and 2004. Two big-screen adaptations followed in 2008 and 2010.
That New York Post story quoted sources as saying co-stars Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis would “freeze” Cattrall out. “They won’t sit with her for meals, there’s no going out after the show for a nightcap,” an insider said, according to the Daily Mail.
Other reports over the years said Parker and Cattrall fought over such issues as salaries and who was the bigger star. And the aborted third “Sex and the City” movie was apparently an issue as well.
The first “Sex and the City” movie took in more than $400 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing romantic comedy of the year, according to Box Office Mojo.
