Watson gets back on track with win

Bubba Watson ended two years without winning with his third victory at Riviera Country Club.

Watson pulled ahead Sunday by holing a bunker shot on the 14th hole and closed with a 2-under 69 for a two-shot victory in the Genesis Open over Kevin Na and Tony Finau. It was his first victory since he won at Riviera two years ago. He joins Ben Hogan and Lloyd Mangrum as the only three-time winners at Riviera. Hogan’s victories include a U.S. Open.

It was the 10th career victory for Watson, who finished at 12-under 272. ROOKIE SETS LPGA MARK >> Jin Young Ko shot a 3-under par 69 to clinch a three-shot victory at the Women’s Australian Open in Adelaide. She finished at 14-under 274 and is the first player to win her first tournament as an LPGA member in the tour’s 67-year history.

LUITEN WINS OMAN EVENT >> Joost Luiten won the inaugural Oman Open in Muscat by firing a final-round shot 4-under 68 to finish at 16-under 272, two shots ahead of Chris Wood (69).

Baseball

RED SOX SIGNS NUNEZ >> The Boston Red Sox have resigned infielder Eduardo Nunez to a one-year contract with a player option for 2019. He gets a guaranteed $6 million, including $4 million this season and a $2 million buyout.

The 30-year-old batted a career-high .313 with 33 doubles and 12 home runs over 114 games last season between the Giants and Boston.

ANDERSON WINS IN NEW YORK >> Top-seeded Kevin Anderson won the first New York Open in Uniondale on Sunday by defeating No. 2 seed Sam Querrey 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (1) for his fourth career ATP Tour title.

Anderson will move to a career-high ninth in the ATP rankings today, continuing a strong rise that began when he reached last year’s U.S. Open final as the world’s No. 32 player. FEDERER BACK AT NO. 1 >> Roger Federer overpowere­d Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-2 to win the ABN AMRO World Tournament in Rotterdam, Netherland­s. It was the 97th career title for Federer, who officially returns to the top of the rankings more than five years after he was last world No. 1.

KVITOVA CONTINUES HOT STREAK >> Petra Kvitova defeated Garbine Muguruza 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the Qatar Open final for her 13th straight win and second consecutiv­e title.
