Cal’s Anigwe double-double trouble for Washington

Kristen Anigwe had 23 points, on 11-of-18 shooting, and 12 rebounds, Kianna Smith added 16 points and eight assists and the Cal women beat Washington 83-67 in the regular-season finale on Sunday.

Cal (20-9, 11-7 Pac-12) clinched the fifth seed in the conference tournament and will play the 12thseeded Huskies (7-22, 1-17) in the first round on Thursday in Seattle. Cal swept the season series winning the first game 69-60.

Smith hit two 3-pointers and Anigwe made back-toback jumpers during a 16-2 opening run and the Bears led by double figures the rest of the way. STANFORD-WASHINGTON STATE >> The scheduled game between the No. 16 Cardinal and Cougars was canceled after the death of the Cougars’ director of strength and conditioni­ng David Lang.

Lang, a longtime member of the athletics department, worked directly with the women’s basketball and men’s and women’s golf programs. Stanford (20-9, 14-3) entered the day a game behind No. 8 Oregon for the Pac-12 Conference championsh­ip. The Ducks clinched their first regular-season title in 18 years with a victory over Arizona.

OREGON 74, ARIZONA 61 >> Ruthy Hebard scored 24 points and the Ducks beat the Wildcats.

Oregon (27-4, 16-2 Pac12) won 24 games last season and took a big step this season, breaking school records for overall and conference wins. The Ducks closed the regular season with six straight wins. TENNESSEE 65, SOUTH CAROLINA 46 >> Rennia Davis had 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists and the No. 15 Volunteers rallied for an upset victory over the No. 7 Gamecocks, playing without star center A’ja Wilson.

MEN

MICHIGAN STATE 68, WISCONSIN 63 >> Cassius Winston scored 20 points and went 6 for 6 from 3-point range and the No. 2 Spartans beat the Badgers. Miles Bridges hit two late foul shots to clinch it.

The Spartans (28-3, 16-2) clinched the top seed in this week’s Big Ten Tournament in New York.

Bridges was cleared by the NCAA following a Yahoo! Sports article on Friday that identified him as one of many players who may have received improper benefits. Michigan State didn’t get the go-ahead from the NCAA until Saturday, about an hour before the team left for Madison. SAN DIEGO COACH ARRESTED >> University of San Diego coach Lamont Smith was arrested at the Oakland Airport Sunday on domestic violence charges, 10News of San Diego reported.

According to 10News, the 42-year-old Smith faces charges for “domestic violence, assault with force likely to commit great bodily injury and false imprisonme­nt” after an incident at the team’s hotel near Union Square late Saturday night after their game at USF. Officers were called to the hotel and a woman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatenin­g injuries.
