Movin’ On Up

Joe DeMers, University of Washington baseball: The former College Park High standout threw the fist perfect game in Washington’s program history — a history that includes Tim Lincecum — when the Huskies defeated UC Riverside 8-0 in the first game of a doubleheader last weekend. The junior threw just 84 pitches, striking out nine and getting 12 ground outs. “It was awesome,” DeMers told the Seattle Times. “Everything was working for me.” As a high school senior in 2015, DeMers threw a perfect game against Monte Vista.

Frankie Ferrari and Souley Boum, USF basketball: Ferrari, a former Burlingame High star and the Mercury News’ player of the year in 2014, was selected to the all-West Coast Conference’s first team. The junior began this week averaging 13.8 points per game. Boum, a former Oakland Tech standout, was chosen to the WCC’s all-freshman team. With 324 points on the season, Boum ranks eighth all-time among freshmen in the USF program’s history.

Brittany Heng, San Jose State swimming and diving: The former Las Lomas High standout earned all-Mountain West Conference honors in two events at the conference’s recent championships. She took fifth in the 50 freestyle in 22.85 after qualifying in 22.78, the latter time matching the third-best mark in SJSU’s history. Heng also swam the last leg on the school’s record-setting 200 medley relay team, which placed third, the best finish for any SJSU relay team at the conference finals since the school joined the Mountain West in 2013. David Kyriacou, University of Kansas baseball: Former Bishop O’Dowd standout went 2 for 3 with two doubles, two walks and two runs in an 18-12 loss to Northwestern.
