MYSTERY OBJECT >> Last year I was the guest appraiser at a function in San Mateo. Among the objects brought in was this rounded triangular sterling silver item about 5 inches long. It is rather plain in appearance and was acquired at a Hillsborough estate sale by the owner. Can you help identify this novelty? Send your best guess by May 1 and I’ll let you know what I discover in a future column.

A FESTIVE OCCASION >> The always anticipated annual Blossom Festival in Saratoga takes place March 24.

Sponsored by the City of Saratoga and produced by the Saratoga Historical Foundation, there will be antique automobiles on display, live music, crafts for sale, an art show, booths representing local organizations, a petting zoo, activities for children — even people acting and dressed in historical costumes. And there’s a poetry reading by Bill Peck and a lecture by Ann Marie Sayers on “Ohlone Territory.” DETAILS >> The fun happens from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 24, Heritage Orchard and

Saratoga Civic Center, 13777 Fruitvale, Ave., Saratoga, 408-867-4311, www.saratogahistory.com. Admission is free. Gourmet food trucks on site. ANTIQUES ARE MEMORIES >> As collectors we constantly take a journey down Memory Lane. How many folks recall Keesling’s Antiques shop in Los Altos? Find a buy there? Visit often? Chat with the owners? Please write with some of your thoughts and we will print some of your feedback in the future. FIELD TRIP >> Anyone familiar with old Hollywood and is a film fan knows about the notable eatery Formosa Cafe in West Hollywood. It was where actors John Wayne, Ava Gardner, Frank Sinatra, Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe could be seen indulging in sticky ribs and licking their fingers. In more recent years, the place became the backdrop for movies like the famous film

noir drama/mystery “L.A. Confidential.”

The restaurant sadly closed last year, but has reopened to its fans’ delight. Visit for a plate of fried rice, or glazed tiger shrimp, and view today’s new crop of celebs!

The store is a spot to consider using for your framing needs and projects. I found the owners versed in using archival materials and conservation techniques.
