WHAT WILL IT TAKE to withstand climate change?

-

Californians are constantly being reminded that the climate is changing.

We’ve experienced years of historic droughts, record-high temperatures and severe weather events that are stronger and happen more often.

PG&E sees these challenges every day

and is meeting them head on. Across California, record numbers of trees are dying from drought and bark beetle infestation. Managing more than 120 million trees in our 70,000 square-mile service area, PG&E has nearly doubled our spending to inspect and monitor vegetation along our 100,000 miles of overhead transmission and distribution lines. To keep our community safe, we have pruned or removed approximately 1.4 million trees in each of the last five years.

We’re also better prepared to react

when the unexpected happens. Our Storm Outage Prediction Model allows us to more accurately predict when storms will occur and where the impact will be most severe, so that we can improve rapid response times by pre-staging crews and equipment. To prepare for the future, we have developed a pilot program to test how energy storage can be used to support the electric grid during periods of high demand.

Fighting back against climate change is no small task.

But with 23,000 employees and 100 years of energy experience, PG&E is ready to help build a brighter future for California.
