Stanford baseball completes sweep

Cardinal routs USC; SJSU golfer Arevalo wins first tournament

Brandon Wulff hit his third home run of the season while driving in six runs, and No. 3 Stanford earned the sweep of USC with an 18-0 win on Sunday at Sunken Diamond.

Starter Erik Miller allowed four hits and struck out five in five scoreless innings, and the Cardinal (17-2, 3-0 Pac-12) scored its most runs in a game since April 2, 2011, when Stanford won 22-3 at Washington State. Wulff’s six RBI were a career high, going 3-for-3 with one walk.

CAL >> Matt Ladrech allowed one run and struck out six in 5 1/3 innings, and Andrew Vaughn hit his 12th home run of the season as the Bears beat Oregon 5-3 to close out a three-game series at PK Park and rebound a day after losing both games of a doublehead­er.

Tanner Dodson pitched the final 3 2/3 innings to earn his fourth save for Cal (13-9, 1-5 Pac-12).

SAINT MARY’S-SANTA CLARA >> Ken Waldichuk and reliever Andrew Hansen combined on a six-hitter and struck out 10 as the Gaels beat the Broncos 7-0.

The Gaels (12-8, 3-3 West Coast Conference) won two of the three games over the weekend and handed Santa Clara (14-7, 3-3) its first consecutiv­e losses of the season.

Golf

SAN JOSE STATE >> Abegail Arevalo won her first collegiate tournament, shooting a three-under 213 for three rounds at the MountainVi­ew Collegiate, and the Spaertans finished second overall.

Arevalo finished the tournament with a two-under 70 in the final round and won by two strokes.

Alexandra Cooper finished fourth at even-par 216.

Beach volleyball

CAL >> The No. 16 Bears knocked off No. 11 Arizona 4-1 during the Pac-12 South Tournament, the highestran­ked opponent the Bears have ever defeated.

Women’s lacrosse

STANFORD >> Galen Lew scored a short-handed game-winner in overtime to lift No. 19 the Cardinal past No. 13 USC 12-11 and into a three-way tie for first-place in the Pac-12 with USC and Colorado.

Women’s gymnastics

SAN JOSE STATE REPEATS >> The Spartans set a school record with 195.975 points and repeated as Mountain Pacific Sport Federation champions for the first time on Saturday night in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Chelsey Andrada (vault) and Kaitlin Won (allaround) captured event titles for the Spartans.

UC Davis was second at 195.200.

PAC-12 CHAMPIONSH­IPS >> Cal’s highest-scoring finish at the Pac-12 events, 196.950, netted third place helped coach Justin Howell surpass 100 career wins Saturday night at the McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz.

Stanford’s Elizabeth Price tied for first place in the uneven bars and floor exercise, and was third in the all-around and became Stanford’s first two-time Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year, previously winning in 2016. Price also won Pac-12 titles on bars in 2015 and 2016.

The Cardinal finished seventh.

Top-seeded UCLA won the conference championsh­ip with a 197.500.
