Undergraduate acceptance rate drops to about 4.3 percent

As it has for many years running, Stanford University’s acceptance rate dropped yet again, to about 4.3 percent for the Class of 2022.

The highly competitive university offered admission to 2,040 of the 47,450 students who applied for undergraduate admission, the school announced Friday.

Last year, the acceptance rate was 4.65 percent, down from around 4.69 percent the previous year.

The university admitted students from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. More than 11 percent of the admitted students are international, hailing from 63 countries. Around 18 percent of the students admitted will be the first in their families to attend college.

“We continue to be awed and humbled by the interest Stanford receives from outstanding young people around the world,” said Richard H. Shaw, dean of admission and financial aid, in a statement.

The Humanities and Sciences programs continue to be popular, interesting around 65 percent of admitted students, with another 30 percent interested in engineering.

Students from families who make less than $125,000 will not have to pay tuition. Those from families earning less than $65,000 will also have room and board costs covered.

Students will have until May 1 to decide whether to attend.
