Astros’ Gurriel expected back in lineup Tuesday

Houston Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel is expected to be in the lineup Tuesday, a day after another batting practice session at the Astros’ spring training facility in Florida.

Gurriel started the season on the restricted list to serve his five-game suspension for an inappropri­ate gesture after homering against Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish of the Dodgers in Game 3 of the World Series. Gurriel had surgery for a broken bone in his left hand Feb. 28.

RANGERS’ DESHIELDS HAS BROKEN BONE IN HAND >> Texas Rangers center fielder Delino DeShields is expected to miss four to six weeks after breaking a bone in his left hand while taking a swing.

The Rangers have put DeShields on the 10-day disabled list. On Friday, he hurt his hamate bone against Houston. DeShields was injured in the seventh inning, but stayed in the game.

DODGERS ACQUIRE VALERA >> The Dodgers have acquired infielder Breyvic Valera from the St. Louis Cardinals for minor league outfielder Johan Mieses.

Valera has a .303 career batting average in 800 minor league games over eight years with the Cardinals organizati­on. The 26-year-old utility player has spent the majority of his career at second base, but has seen time at shortstop, third base and all three outfield positions.

BRAVES TRADE FOR PEREZ >> The Atlanta Braves have added catching depth by acquiring Carlos Perez from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for infielder Ryan Schimpf.

The Braves needed help at catcher after they placed Tyler Flowers on the 10-day disabled list with an oblique injury on Friday and Kurt Suzuki suffered a bruised right hand Friday night. Chris Stewart started Saturday night’s game against Philadelph­ia.
