Bio paints Markle as social climber

Meghan Markle doesn’t have a problem shedding friends — or a husband — if they no longer prove useful to her, according to a new book by famed biographer Andrew Morton.

That was certainly the case after she started to enjoy success with her TV show “Suits” and moved from Los Angeles to Toronto where the USA Network show is filmed, Morton alleges in his new book on the American-born actress, “Meghan: A Hollywood Princess.”

Sensing a shift in her 2011 marriage to producer Trevor Engelson, Markle in the summer of 2013 abruptly ended the marriage by sending him her diamond engagement and wedding rings back by registered mail, a wealthy entrepreneur friend told Morton.

Morton is the British journalist who gained international fame by revealing stunning details about the failed marriage of Harry’s parents, Princess Diana and Prince Charles, in his 1992 book “Diana: Her True Story in Her Own Words.”

Now Morton is revealing some stunning details about Markle, 36, who will marry Harry on May 19. Indeed, his book, excerpts of which have been running in the British tabloid The Sun, depicts Markle as something of a social climber who had a fixation on Diana. Markle held her up as a role model — “not just for her style” but for her humanitarian work, Morton writes.

Morton quotes a former friend, Ninaki Priddy, who was maid of honor at her first wedding, as saying that Markle “wants to be Princess Diana 2.0.”

As for Markle’s first marriage to Engelson, the two were married in Jamaica in September 2011 but were living apart by early February 2013 after her career took off with “Suits.”

Engelson “went from cherishing Meghan” — one friend observed to Morton — to “feeling like he was a piece of something stuck to the bottom of her shoe.”

Regarding Markle and Engleson, Morton writes there were challenges other than their long-distance relationship. Markle could be fastidious and controlling, while Engelson had a more laid-back approach to life.
