Ibrahimovi­c starts, scores winning goal for Galaxy

Zlatan Ibrahimovi­c scored in his first MLS start, and the Los Angeles Galaxy beat the Chicago Fire 1-0 on Saturday in Bridgeview, Illinois.

Ibrahimovi­c headed home Ashley Cole’s deep diagonal cross in the first minute of first-half stoppage time. The Swedish forward played as a substitute in his first two appearance­s for the Galaxy (3-21). He has three goals in 127 minutes. Galaxy goalkeeper David Bingham made four saves to preserve his second clean sheet of the season.

POULTER LOOKING FOR SECOND WIN >> The resurgent Ian Poulter shot a 4-under 67 to take a one-shot lead into the final round of the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, putting him in position for his second victory in three weeks. Before April, Poulter had not won on tour in more than five years. Now, he’s one more solid round away from adding another title to his Houston Open win on April 1. Poulter is at 13-under 200, a stroke ahead of Luke List (67) and Si Woo Kim (68).

Poulter and his chasers will have a quick turnaround today with tour officials starting play at 4 a.m. (PDT) and going off in threesomes on both tees because of expected bad weather in the afternoon. FLESCH SURVIVES CHAMPIONS MARATHON >> Steve Flesch needed 38 holes to win the Mitsubishi Electric Classic at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Georgia, for his first PGA Tour Champions victory. Flesch birdied the second hole of a playoff with Scott Parel in the event completed a day early because of forecast rain and lightning.

HENDERSON WINS IN HAWAII >> Brooke Henderson pulled away at gusty Ko Olina Golf Club to win the Lotte Championsh­ip in Kapolei, Hawaii, for her sixth LPGA Tour victory. The 20-yearold Canadian closed with a 3-under 69 for a four-stroke victory. A stroke ahead entering the round after late putting trouble in a thirdround 73, Henderson finished at 12-under 276. Spain’s Azahara Munoz had a 67, the low round of the day, to finish second.

SHAZIER STANDS TO OVATION AT OHIO STATE >> Ohio State fan favorite Ryan Shazier visited the spring game and stood without assistance to cheers from the crowd at his alma mater in Columbus. The Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker is recovering from a devastatin­g spinal injury suffered in a Dec. 4 game with the Bengals.

Shazier, an honorary captain of one of the squads, drove a golf cart to midfield and climbed out to stand briefly to fire up the crowd.

ROSSI LOOKS FOR FIRST WIN FROM LONG BEACH POLE >> Alexander Rossi will start today’s Long Beach IndyCar race from the pole. Rossi had a fast lap of 1 minute, 6.5528 second and claimed the top starting spot in Saturday’s qualifying session. Penske driver Will Power will start second followed by teammate Simon Pagenaud, Scott Dixon, Graham Rahal and Josef Newgarden.
