Contreras celebrates his bobblehead in grand fashion

-

Willson Contreras had two homers, two doubles and drove in a career-high seven runs on his bobblehead day, and the Chicago Cubs pounded the crosstown White Sox 11-2 on Friday.

Contreras capped a five-run first against Carson Fulmer with his second career grand slam. He doubled in the fourth, hit a solo homer in the sixth and added a two-run double in the seventh.

That gave him three doubles, two triples and two homers in his past 10 at-bats. Contreras is also the first Cubs player with seven extra-base hits in two games since at least 1913, according to STATS.

Kris Bryant also homered for the fourth time in five games as the Cubs have won four straight after a five-game skid.

Tyler Chatwood (3-3) gave up two runs and three hits in five innings to improve to 3-0 in his past four starts.

MAILE DELIVERS >> Luke Maile hit two home runs, including a two-run shot in the 12th inning that gave the Toronto a victory over Boston. Maile’s drive off Boston’s Brian Johnson (12) improved the Blue Jays to 5-0 in extra innings after they overcame an impressive outing by Red Sox starter Chris Sale, who matched his career high by striking out 15 over a seasonhigh nine innings. He allowed three runs and six hits, and walked none. The left-hander is the third pitcher in Red Sox history to strike out 15 while walking none. Pedro Martinez had four such games while Roger Clemens had three.

TILLMAN TO DL >> The Baltimore Orioles have placed struggling right-hander Chris Tillman on the 10-day disabled list with a lower back strain. The move comes less than 24 hours after Tillman yielded six runs in 1 1/3 innings against the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night, leaving him at 1-5 with a 10.46 ERA. Tillman will be replaced on the roster by right-handed reliever Jimmy Yacabonis, who was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk.
