Resident of San Jose

-

Jason (Jay) Carroll Colter, (affectionately known as “Cosmo” by some friends) left his earthly body 5/8/18. Born in Berkeley, March 27, 1953 to Frances Boehme Colter (deceased) and adopted at birth by John Cecil Colter, Sr.(deceased), he grew up in the Fresno and Santa Clara areas with his two younger brothers, John (Denise) of California and Matthew Smith of Michigan.

Jay graduated from Santa Clara HS, and remained good friends with many people he has known since childhood. He was a very friendly person with a big heart and his friends will attest to the fact that he spent a lot of time helping them out, they were his family. His first job was team building “Pong” machines for ATARI, there was a recent reunion with ATARI coworkers that he enjoyed attending. After ATARI Jay joined the US Air Force, then he returned to Santa Clara, working for Aydin Corp. and then Velodyne as a quality Engineer. He dabbled in many things over the years including work as a security guard with Allied Barton before retiring. He also worked for many years for Shoreline working numerous historical concerts and events and creating lifelong friends there too. Jay enjoyed hobbies such as golfing, running, hiking and fishing and was interested in exploring his beliefs and existence. He wrote at one point when exploring his beliefs “that he was on a road with many turns and hills and distractions. He wanted to be remembered by all whom he met as an honest, trusting and caring person. A person who treats others as he would like to be treated.”

Extended family was important to Jay also. He made an effort to stay in touch despite the distances. Important to him are his Uncle Robert (deceased) and Aunt Phyllis Colter of Laguna Hills, cousins KaCee and Robert Colter Jr. (Marti), Uncle George (deceased), and Aunt Madelene Colter of Springfield, Va, cousins Ellen Wormald (Charles) of Va and Martha Dennis (Shad) of NJ. When his father was married in 1974 to Anne Bickel (deceased) the family grew and added step-sisters Deborah Bickel and Pattie Lopez (Luis) of NC and step-brother Thomas Bickel of GA. He is already missed by his large circle of friends and there will be a gathering in his remembrance on June 23, details are posted on Jay’s facebook page.
