Mary Jane (Marianelli) Sunseri

September 3, 1928 - May 12, 2018 San Jose

-

Mary Jane, a native of San Jose passed away after a short illness at the age of 89. She was born into an Italian immigrant family. Her parents were Domenico Marianelli and Fermina “Hazel” (Pelatti) Marianelli.

She was raised on the family’s “home ranch” on North 21st Street where they grew a variety of vegetables under the label Marianelli Bros.. Her immediate family and her extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins all resided in this Italian section of San Jose in the vicinity of Holy Cross Parish. She attended St. Patrick’s Elementary School and graduated from Notre Dame High School.

Through neighborhood friends she met her future husband Angelo Sunseri. They were married for 66 years. In the early years they enjoyed car trips to Lake Tahoe and other nearby towns. Also a trip to Italy was made with a tour group. Mostly they enjoyed a variety of crafts, card/ dice games, going out for lunch, watching their favorite TV programs and listening to music. Mary Jane especially enjoyed listening to Angelo playing the organ, piano or accordion for her.

There is something to say about loneliness and wanting to be reunited, as her loving husband, Angelo, preceded her in death by only 2½ months. Mary Jane was also predeceased by her brother Carl Marianelli (Angie Ginestra) and brother–in-law Louis Figone, Sr.. She is survived by her sister Elaine Marianelli Figone, sisters-in-law Mary Gloria Sunseri Rohrig(Bob), Pearl “Babe” Sunseri, Emma Sunseri as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Maama Loving Caregiving Service over the last few months and especially Pele Fakatou and Anna Pulu.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Tuesday June 12th at 12:30p.m. St. Clare’s Chapel at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery .

In lieu of flowers you are invited to make a donation to the charity of your choice.
