Claudia Joy (McLoughlin) Wallace-Place died as she lived: with strength, grace, a loving spirit and thinking of others! Born in San Jose she attended Willow Glen schools; moving to Ben Lomond in her sophomore year she graduated from San Lorenzo HS. She lived in Hawaii as a naval wife for 12 years before moving back to the Mainland. For 20+ years, she was a full-time union representative for UFCW #428 (now Local #5), AFL-CIO in San Jose.

She is survived by husband Frank Place, daughter Carlena Grandey, son Greg Wallace, sister Patti Brady, granddaughters Jaden and Faith Grandey, grandsons Tony Beal and James Wallace along with a large, loving extended family and 100’s of friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter Carolen Wallace, parents Myra B. and James P. McLoughlin.

Our family is forever grateful to Dr. Rajinder Singh for his expert care and compassion. A heartfelt thank you also to Dr. Martina Rodriquez, Dr. Binal Shafi, Dr. Victor Ochoa and ALL staff associated with Dominican Hospital’s Cardiac and Critical Care Units. Knowing she probably couldn’t change her fate, she sent an email to friends shortly before her death: “Thank you for being in my life, for arguing with me when needed, for loving me when wanted. Please begin adding ½ a day of movement in to your schedule. All my love, Claudia.” She asked for a party not a funeral: on September 29 (her birthday) a celebration will be held; please bring a “Claudia story” (time & place will be announced in August).

In lieu of flowers, please send a contribution in memory of Claudia Wallace-Place to Parents of Murdered Children - National POMC 635 West 7th Street, Suite 104 Cincinnati, Ohio 45203 Email: natlpomc@pomc.org; Claudia having experienced such a tragedy, was a long-time PMOC grief counselor.
