Dixon climbs list with Texas victory
Scott Dixon led the last 119 laps at Texas on Saturday night, winning his second consecutive IndyCar Series race and breaking a tie for the third-most career wins in open-wheel racing.
Dixon got for his 43rd career victory, a week after winning at Detroit to match Michael Andretti. Dixon trails only A.J. Foyt’s 67 wins and Mario Andretti’s 52.
After taking the lead on the 1½-mile Texas oval, he never gave it up. It was Dixon’s third victory at Texas. DILLON TAKES XFINITY RACE >> Austin Dillon won the rain-shortened NASCAR Xfinity race at Michigan International Speedway. The race was finally called after 91 of the planned 125 laps. Dillon and Daniel Hemric battled for the lead on a restart on the 89th lap, but the race went under caution again almost immediately because of the weather. It was the ninth career Xfinity victory for Dillon. VETTEL TAKES POLE FOR CANADIAN GP >> Sebastian Vettel claimed the pole position in the Formula One Canadian Grand Prix with the fastest lap ever on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Vettel steered his Ferrari over the 2.71-mile track in 1 minute, 10.764 seconds to deprive Lewis Hamilton of a record seventh pole in Montreal. It’s Vettel’s fourth pole on the Ile Notre-Dame, and his first since 2013. The Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas will also start in the front row. COURTNEY FORCE TOP
QUALIFIER AT VIRGINIA >> Courtney Force took her sixth No. 1 qualifier of the year and fourth in the past five events in the inaugural Virginia NHRA Nationals in Dinwiddie. Force had a 3.983-second pass at 323.35 mph during her second qualifying run Friday. Tony Schumacher took the No. 1 spot in Top Fuel, Greg Anderson in Pro Stock, and Hector Arana Jr. in Pro Stock Motorcycle also all with their Friday runs.

CRAWFORD STOPS HORN >> Terence Crawford threw a bevy of punches near the end of the ninth round to stop Jeff Horn and win the WBO welterweight title in Las Vegas.
After dropping Horn (181-1) with 50 seconds left in the ninth round, Crawford (33-0, 24 KOs) unleashed a slew of punches that sent the former champion into the ropes, prompting referee Robert Byrd to stop the fight with 28 seconds left in the round.
SANTA CRUZ RETAINS TITLE >>Leo Santa Cruz retained his WBA featherweight title via unanimous decision 115-113, 116-112, 117111 over Abner Mares after 12 action-filled rounds in the main event at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

U.S. DRAWS WITH FRANCE >> Julian Green scored in the 44th minute and a young United States team held on against intense pressure to tie World Cupbound France 1-1 at Lyon. Kylian Mbappe tied the score in the 78th minute for Les Bleus, who outshot the Americans 19-2. The French were 3-0 against the U.S. in prior meetings, outscoring the Americans 10-0, but Zack Steffen, 23, made seven saves in his third international appearance. DENMARK BLANKS MEXICO >> In Copenhagen, second-half goals by Yussuf Poulsen and Christian Eriksen gave Denmark a 2-0 victory over Mexico in each team’s final warm-up game before of the World Cup in Russia.
