Race, gender inequities existed before 11/8/16

- — Shelly Sheperson, Belmont

We are writing in regard to the NFL’s new national anthem policy that requires players to stand if they are on the field during the performance but gives them the option to remain in the locker room if they prefer.

The NFL has decided to fully engage with the culture war initiated by President Trump. This is another dangerous example of censorship and suppression that sets a scary precedent.

We appreciate the San Francisco 49ers fighting against this policy by abstaining from voting. This is a message from the San Mateo chapter of Solidarity Sundays. Solidarity Sundays is a nationwide network of feminist activist groups focused on resisting the current unAmerican administration, as well as the systemic race-, gender-, class- and abilitybased inequities that existed long before 11/8/16.
