Every year, Apple has an event in September in which it unveils it newest iPhones. Last year, Apple used that event to show off three new iPhone models: the iPhone 8, the iPhone 8 Plus and the $999 iPhone X.

And it looks like Apple might do the three-timesa-charm thing again this year.

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Apple intends to put three new iPhones on the market this fall, with two models using OLED (organic light-emitting diode) screens, like those used with the iPhone X. OLED screens are noted for their better image quality and low levels of power consumption.

However at an estimated $100 each, OLED screens bring up a phone's overall price tag to a higher degree than traditional LCD screens, which cost about $40 each. And with the iPhone X, the $999 it starts at has been seen as a reason why some have balked at purchasing the smartphone. So, in order to hedge its bets, Apple will reportedly put LCD screens on one of the new phones it will have on sale later this year.

The Journal reported that “people involved in the Apple supply chain” said the company plans to put most of its production into the new iPhones with LCD screen due to a belief that customers will be more likely to buy the less-expensive phones heading into the end-of-the-year Christmas and holiday shopping season.

While the OLED-screen iPhone X has gained in popularity, its high price tag was said to be a main reason why initial sales were reportedly lower that Apple had anticipated with its production plans last year.
