Local sportscast­er Radnich to retire

Gary Radnich, the undisputed king of the sports airwaves in the Bay Area for the last three decades, announced his retirement from television on Tuesday.

Radnich, who rose to Bay Area fame throughout his 34-year career at KRON4 News with his good-natured, rarely serious, off-the-cuff observatio­ns, indicated his last TV segment will be around Sept. 1.

Before joining KRON4 in 1985, Radnich, 68, was the sports director at WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio. He was also the playby-play announcer for Ohio State’s football broadcasts during that time.

BUCKS’ BROWN SUE S POLICE >> Milwaukee Bucks guard Sterling Brown sued the city of Milwaukee and its police department, saying officers’ use of a stun gun during his arrest for a parking violation constitute­s excessive force and that they targeted him because he is black.

Brown’s attorney Mark Thomsen filed the lawsuit in federal court, accusing police of “discrimina­ting against Mr. Brown on the basis of his race.” The lawsuit alleges officers involved in his arrest used their incident report to try to reframe what happened to give the impression Brown was resisted and obstructed them.

College football

RILEY GETS RAISE AT OKLAHOMA >> Oklahoma will pay football coach Lincoln Riley $25 million over the next five years, including $4.8 million this season.

The 34-year-old Riley was named head coach last summer after Bob Stoops’ abrupt retirement. Shortly after his promotion, the board of trustees approved a deal for Riley that started at $3.1 million. MISSISSIPP­I STATE ROLLS IN CWS >> Jordan Westburg hit a grand slam, doubled and drove in seven runs, and Mississipp­i State went on to beat North Carolina 12-2 in the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. The Bulldogs need one more win to advance to the best-of-3 finals.

• Jackson Kowar struck out a career-high 13 in 6 2/3 innings, Jonathan India, hit a three-run homer and defending national champion Florida eliminated Texas from the CWS with a 6-1 win.

MURRAY WINS A SET IN COMEBACK >> Andy Murray won the first set on his return from hip surgery after almost a year away from competitiv­e tennis before Nick Kyrgios rallied to win 2-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5 in the first round at Queen’s Club in London.

PLAYER SUSPENDED FOR MATCH FIXING >> Top100 tennis player Nicolas Kicker has been suspended for six years and fined $25,000 for fixing two matches. The Tennis Integrity Unit announced Kicker’s punishment, saying that he can reduce his ban to three years if he “commits no further breaches.” Kicker was kicked out of the French Open last month after an anti-corruption hearing officer ruled that the 25-year-old from Argentina arranged the results of two Challenger tour matches in 2015.

AUSTRALIAN GOLFER THOMSON DIES >> Golf Australia says the family of five-time British Open champion Peter Thomson has announced his death. He was 88. Thomson had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for more than four years. Thomson was two months short of his 89th birthday.
