Harvick also became the first driver to accomplish the Sonoma Sweep, winning Saturday’s NASCAR West Series event. Martin Truex Jr. won the first stage and led a race-high 25 laps before his engine blew. He finished 37th in the 38-car field. In their final Sonoma appearances, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was sixth and Danica Patrick was 17th.

Notes: This is the 30th NASCAR Cup race in Sonoma. This is the most highly attended annual sporting event in Northern California. … Harvick and Kyle Busch have dominated the series so far in 2018. Harvick leads in victories with five, one ahead of Busch. Harvick is also one-up on Busch in playoff points 26-25, but Busch leads Harvick in overall points 664-589. They also are 1-2 in Top-5 finishes (Harvick 11, Busch 10) and laps led (Harvick 958, Busch 888). … Through 15 races, only six drivers have won this season, with Clint Bowyer and Martin Truex Jr. winning twice each and Joey Logano and Austin Dillon scoring the other wins. … In the last race, Bowyer won the rain-shortened FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan. Harvick was second, Kurt Busch was third and Kyle Busch was fourth. The race was called after 133 of the scheduled 200 laps. … Recently retired sports car driver Scott Pruett, 58, will find himself in a familiar position Sunday — at the front of the field. But this time, the Northern California native will be driving the Toyota Camry pace car. Pruett, winner of 11 sports car championships (five Grand-Am, three Trans-Am, two IMSA GTO and one IMSA GT Endurance), retired from racing in January after the Rolex 24 at Daytona. He devotes his time to his award-winning Pruett Vineyard in the Sierra Foothills, where he makes an acclaimed Syrah.
