For the second weekend in a row, temperatures across the Bay Area are expected to soar near the century mark Saturday.

Thankfully, the heat won’t last long.

The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures to soar Saturday into the 90s in most inland locations, with some of the warmest areas possibly reaching 100. Forecast highs Saturday include Livermore at 100, Concord 98, Mountain View 93 and San Jose 91.

“The majority of the Bay Area will under 100 degrees,” said Brian Mejia, a meteorologist with the weather service. “Some areas will flirt with triple digits.”

Cities closer to the ocean also will be warm, with temperatures in the 80s, according to the weather service. The forecast high in San Francisco on Saturday is 80 degrees, with Monterey predicted to reach 70.

Sunday, temperatures around the Bay Area will drop by as much as 10 degrees in some inland cities.

“It looks like we will have more of an onshore push that will cool things down a little bit Sunday,” Mejia said. “It should give us some relief and cool temperatures down a bit.”

Last Saturday, temperatures around the inland valleys of the Bay Area soared into the 90s and 100s, including Concord (105 degrees), Livermore (102), Santa Rosa (99) and San Jose (98).

The warm and dry conditions beginning Friday and lasting through Saturday, coupled with increasing northerly winds in the hills, may result in increased wildfire concerns, according to the weather service.

The weather service said it may need to issue a fire weather watch later this week for the North Bay Mountains and East Bay Hills.
