#PermitPatty calling cops on girl revealed in 911 recording
SAN FRANCISCO >> Despite her claims to the contrary, #PermitPatty called police to report an 8-year-old for selling water outside AT&T Park, according to a newly released 911 recording.
“I'm having someone that does not have a vendor permit that is selling water across from the ballpark,” a woman said in the brief recording, which was obtained by KTVU.
The station said it verified the call was placed from a number that belongs to Alison Ettel, who was nicknamed #PermitPatty after a video of the episode went viral.
Earlier this week, Ettel told the San Francisco Chronicle she never called police and was on the phone trying to reach her building's security. Ettel also apologized and said her anger stemmed from work stress and loud noise that the girl and her mother were reportedly making.
The video was first
posted to Instagram on Saturday. The girl's mother, Erin Austin, confronts Ettel while she was on the phone and appeared to be on hold. Ettel is white and the girl is black, leading to speculation that the incident was racially motivated.
“And illegally selling water without a permit?” Ettel responded.
Then Austin notes that the water being sold is on her property. Ettel responded: “It's not your property.”
In the recording of the 911 call, the woman asked to speak with someone about the situation. An operator tells her to hold while he transfers her to the San Francisco Police Department. The call ends seconds later when the woman either hangs up or is accidentally disconnected.
The episode cost Ettel her job. On Tuesday, she stepped down as CEO of Treatwell Health, a San Francisco-based company that sells cannabis products.
“It is important to know it was never the intention to disparage, harass or cause any harm to the child, nor her mother,” Treatwell Health spokeswoman Cynthia Gonzalez said in a statement.
