Clarke F. “Chuck” Carey, loving husband of Barbara King Carey (deceased), passed away on June 21, 2018 at age 91. Chuck was a native of White Plains, New York and a 64-year resident of San Jose. Chuck was a graduate of Yale University (BS 1946, MS 1948), and Stanford University (MS 1962), and a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy who served in the Korean War on the USS Purdy. He was a Silicon Valley pioneer, building revolution­ary new memory devices as an engineer at IBM and Memorex, and teaching mechanical engineerin­g at Santa Clara University and San Jose State University. Chuck was an avid musician, sailor, traveler, reader, and dog-lover. He played trumpet all his life, most recently with the Saratoga Community Band for over 20 years. He was very active even in his later years, taking extensive road trips all over the U.S.A. and Canada, and cruising to Hawaii (twice) and through the Panama Canal. Chuck is survived by his four children Mike (Debra), Steve (Anna), Peter (Mary), and Liz (Charles); seven grandchild­ren, Erin, Scott (Michelle), Claire, Katie, Christophe­r, Robert, and Diana; and one great granddaugh­ter, Emma. He will be missed by all. Lux et Veritas.

Interment services at Oak Hill Memorial Park will be private.

A memorial service will be held at the First Congregati­onal Church of San Jose, 1980 Hamilton Avenue, on Saturday, July 28, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Chuck’s memory to the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford (www.stanfordch­ildrens.org).
