Markle’s wardrobe worth $1 million
This news could give U.K. republicans reason to hope that the British will get over their love affair with their new Duchess of Sussex.
Since she became engaged to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle has worn $1 million worth of clothing and accessories when stepping out in public, royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight.
Nearly half of that amount went to Markle’s custom Givenchy wedding gown designed by Clare Waight Keller, which cost more than $444,000. (Katy Perry and other critics of the simple but elegant boat-necked dress will grumble that, for that amount, it should have fit better.)
Another $157,000 was spent on the flowing Stella McCartney halter dress that Markle donned for her reception.
People will remember how much she and a tuxedoed Prince Harry looked like they had stepped out of a Bond movie when they climbed into a 1968 silver blue Jaguar (recently updated to electric power) to speed off to Frogmore House, near Windsor Castle, for a night of partying with George and Amal Clooney, David and Victoria Beckham and 200 other fabulous guests.
Of course, the big question is: Who’s paying for the 36-year-old’s designer gowns, coats, shoes and handbags? Nicoll believes that Prince Charles is probably picking up Markle’s clothing tab. “It does fall now, that she is married into the royal family, to the Prince of Wales … to cover the cost of her working royal wardrobe,” Nicholl told “Entertainment Tonight.”
Better Prince Charles, with an estimated net worth of $400 million, than Prince Harry, who is only worth around $40 million, according to Town and Country. And better one of them than former TV actress Markle, who probably accumulated around $5 million from her time starring on “Suits” and from other acting gig and endorsement deals.
And far better that the royal family somehow covers her wardrobe costs than British taxpayers.
