Vienna in spotlight at Valley of the Moon fest

- — Georgia Rowe, Correspondent

These days, it’s not unusual to hear Baroque ensembles playing world premieres, and 17th-century works performed on modern instruments. This year’s Valley of the Moon Music Festival is a good example: Co-directed by cellist Tanya Tomkins and pianist Eric Zivian, this year’s festival spans the centuries with works composed in one of the world’s great music capitals.

“Vienna in Transition: From the Enlightenment to the Dawn of Modernism” features classical and Romantic chamber works played on period instruments.

Pre-concert talks, apprentice concerts, winery dinners and other ancillary events complete the lineup.

Details: Sunday through July 29, Hanna Center Auditorium, Sonoma; single tickets $45 general, $25 age 35 and under; full festival packages available; 888-5961027, www.valleyofthemoonmusicfestival.org.
