DMV needs to get people in line out of the elements

-

I read Erin Baldassari’s front page article “Going to the DMV? Be prepared” (Mercurynews.com, July 9) and I am so glad that a spotlight is on the horrible job the California DMV is doing.

I have a small solution that should help the folks to endure the crappy process we have. One of the largest problems is standing outside, waiting a long time to get into the building. The people have to endure the hot days and the cold, windy wet days. Getting into the building, out of the elements, would help a lot.

I propose that DMV give each person in line a small, movie theater-type ticket and let them sit down inside as soon as possible. Then staff can call numbers to go to the window that first fits your reason for being there. At least this will get folks inside quickly rather than standing outside. — Bob Jones, Los Altos
