-

Michael Kim took a five-shot lead Saturday at the John Deere Classic in a third round delayed twice for a total of roughly four hours because of bad weather and concerns over lightning in Silvis, Ill.

Kim, a former Cal star who has just one top-10 finish in 84 career PGA Tour starts, shot a 7-under 64 closing with four straight birdies for a three-day total of 22-under 191.

LPGA >> Brooke Henderson birdied the 17th hole, finishing with a 2-under 69 to take a one-stroke lead at the Marathon Classic. The late birdie moved the 20-year-old Canadian out of a tie for the lead as she seeks her second win this season. Henderson is at 11-under 202 after three rounds at Highland Meadows in Sylvania, Ohio. Angela Stanford (65) and Brittany Lincicome (67) are one stroke behind. PGA EUROPE TOUR >> Russell Knox mastered the windiest conditions of the week to shoot a 4-under 66 in the third round of the Scottish Open, leaving him two strokes off surprise leader Jens Dantorb (68) and one behind a six-way tie for second place in the event in Gullane, Scotland.

USGA >> Laura Davies has a five-shot lead after three rounds of the inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open. The Brit birdied six holes as she shot a 7-under 66. Davies, who is at 11-under 208 for the tournament, took control with a 60-foot, twisting, downhill eagle putt on the par-5 12th hole. Until Saturday, no player had scored in the 60s over the par-73, 6,088-yard Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill. Not only did Davies do it with a women’s course record, but American Juli Inkster moved into second with a 68. AMERICAN CENTURY CHAMPIONSHIP >> San Jose Sharks captain Joe Pavelski held off a charge from three-time defending champion Mark Mulder to maintain a onepoint lead after the second round of the celebrity tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe, Nev. Mulder began the day nine points behind Pavelski in the modified Stableford scoring system, which awards six points for eagle, three for birdie, one for par, zero for bogey and minus-two for double bogey or worse. He had 31 points in the round for a total of 47. Pavelski had 23 points on the day for a tworound total of 48.
