Machado pulled from game, fueling rumors

Manny Machado homered before making an early exit, Adam Jones hit a three-run double and the Baltimore Orioles rallied past the Texas Rangers 6-5 Sunday.

Machado was removed in the fifth inning by manager Buck Showalter after a 26-minute rain delay, taking the All-Star shortstop off a sloppy field. The last-place Orioles are entertaini­ng trade offers for Machado, who is expected to be dealt before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. After being replaced by Jace Peterson, Machado sat in the dugout, wearing a sweatshirt and joking with his teammates. CARDINALS 6, REDS 4 >> Matt Carpenter and Dexter Fowler homered for St. Louis, making interim manager Mike Shildt a winner in his first game. Shildt took over for Mike Matheny, who was fired late Saturday after sixplus seasons at the helm.

RED SOX 5, BLUE JAYS 2 >> Xander Bogaerts homered in his first atbat a day after hitting a gameending grand slam, and the Red Sox entered the All-Star break with their best record since 1949. The major league-leading Red Sox (68-30) have won 12 of their last 13 games.

INDIANS 5, YANKEES 2 >> Michael Brantley homered leading off the eighth inning as the Indians beat the Yankees for a split of their four-game series. Neil Walker homered for the Yankees, who have the majors’ second-best record.

ALSO >> Toronto put outfielder Kevin Pillar on the 10-day disabled list with a sternoclav­icular joint injury . ... Milwaukee catcher Manny Pina (left biceps strain) and OF Ryan Braun (back strain) will be eligible to return from the disabled list after the All-Star break . ... The Chicago Cubs have placed outfielder Albert Almora Jr. on the family medical emergency list and recalled infielder David Bote from Triple-A Iowa. Almora is hitting .319, third in the NL going into Sunday, with four homers and 28 RBIs.
