Man hit by car in March dies from injuries
SAN JOSE >> A man who was in hospice care for injuries suffered from being hit by a car while walking in a crosswalk on Santa Teresa Boulevard in March has died, police said.
The man died Monday, five months after the March 23 collision at the intersection of Cottle Road and Santa Teresa Boulevard, according to San Jose police. His identity was not publicly released pending formal notification of his next of kin.
His death marks the city’s 32nd traffic-related fatality of 2018, a figure that includes 12 pedestrian victims.
Police said the man was walking west on Santa Teresa in the crosswalk at about 6:46 a.m. when he was hit by a black 2016 Honda Civic traveling north on Cottle. The Honda initially fled the scene but returned a short time later, police said, adding that the male driver “did not have objective symptoms of alcohol influence.”
The case was originally submitted to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office as a hitand-run, and was still being evaluated when the man died. Officer Gina Tepoorten confirmed that traffic investigators plan to resubmit the case in light of the man’s death and additional evidence they’ve gathered since the March collision.
Police have not released the driver’s name because he has not been arrested or charged with a crime.
