Blue Jays’ Morales hits HR in seventh straight game

Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Kendrys Morales set a team record by homering for the seventh consecutiv­e game Sunday, becoming the seventh player in major league history with a home run streak of at least seven games.

Ken Griffey Jr., Dale Long, and Don Mattingly share the record with home runs in eight straight games.

Morales has connected eight times in his streak, the longest in the majors this season. He extended his run with a two-run drive to right off Philadelph­ia right-hander Vince Velasquez in the third inning, his 21st of the season. Morales has hit safely in 10 straight games.

Kopech pitched six impressive innings for his first big league win and the scored four runs in the third on their way to a 7-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers Sunday. Kopech was limited to two scoreless innings when it rained in his debut Tuesday against Minnesota. The highly touted righthande­r threw 86 pitches Sunday, allowing a run and seven hits. Troy Tulowitzki insists he wants to regain his job as everyday shortstop for the Toronto Blue Jays next season, even though the five-time All-Star has not played in more than a year. Tulowitzki, who had surgery to remove bone spurs from both heels in early April, was ruled out for the season Saturday. He expects to be healthy in time for spring training.
