Michelle Obama bringing her book tour to the Bay Area
Michelle Obama’s eagerly awaited memoir, “Becoming,” will be released Nov. 13 — and then the former first lady will hit the road on a book tour.
The 10-city tour will launch in her hometown of Chicago and then crisscross the country, stopping Dec. 14 in San Jose.
The Silicon Valley event at SAP Center will be one of only two California appearances for the former first lady; the other is scheduled in Southern California, Nov. 15 at the Forum in Inglewood.
Wednesday’s announcement was accompanied by the release of a video in which Obama, 54, admits she’s getting a little nervous as the book’s publication date draws near because she was pretty honest in the memoir.
“I am proud of what I’ve created. I’m proud because it is candid, it’s honest, it is totally and utterly me. So I’m also a little frightened because it is so candid and honest and open,” she said.
Tickets for the tour, cosponsored by Live Nation and Crown Publishing, go on sale next week, with prices starting at $29.50. But to ensure that fans — and not scalpers or bots — get first crack at the tickets, a preregistration system has been set up. Here’s how it works: Fans can register between now and 10 p.m. Tuesday at Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan platform, verifiedfan.ticketmaster.com/ michelleobama. That will allow them to purchase tickets between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Sept. 20 — one day before sales open to the general public. A limited number of VIP and meetand-greet tickets also will be available via Ticketmaster.com.
If you miss the verified fan sale, the public sale will start at 10 a.m. Sept. 21 at Becoming Michelle O ba ma. com.
According to the Live Nation and Crown announcement, the event will “feature intimate and honest conversations between Mrs. Obama and a selection of to-be-announced moderators.”
