SAN JOSE >> A man made a startling discovery Thursday afternoon when he walked inside his Almaden Valley home and came face to face with a group of teens burglarizing the residence.

The interrupted burglary resulted in a search by San Jose police of the surrounding neighborhood and resulted in the arrests of four teens, none older than 16, and including one suspect the homeowner captured himself.

The situation unfolded at 2:46 p.m. Thursday when the man walked into his house in the 6600 block of Marymonte Court, near Camden Avenue, and found five people inside, according to San Jose police.

The homeowner chased the five intruders outside, according to San Jose police. The suspects attempted to get away in a stolen Chevy Malibu parked near the home, but the car wouldn’t start. When the homeowner confronted the teens, he was hit with an unknown object, police said.

As the teens tried to get away, the homeowner caught one of them, a girl, and handed her over to police when they arrived. The other four ran off.

San Jose police used its new AIR 3 helicopter, along with police dogs and extra officers, to establish a perimeter and search for the suspects. Police say they caught three of the people who had fled; one suspect remains at large.

Police arrested four juveniles, two boys and two girls (ages 14, 15, 15 and 16), and booked them into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The homeowner sustained minor injuries.
