Jay Butterfiel­d threw four touchdown passes — three to Sione Vaki — as second-ranked Liberty remained undefeated with a 31-14 victory over Cardinal Newman in Santa Rosa. … No. 5 Pittsburg finished off its rugged nonleague schedule with an impressive 40-7 win at Vacaville. … Jahmal Cornwell took back the opening kickoff for a touchdown and California (3-1) was never behind as the 18th-ranked Grizzlies crushed Heritage (1-4) 54-8. It was 12-6 midway through the first quarter when California went on a 28-2 run that made it 40-8 at halftime. Adrian Atta scored two touchdowns for California and tight end Cameron Fitzpatric­k scored one. … No. 19 Campolindo (3-1) scored 41 unanswered points after falling behind 7-0 in the first quarter against Hayward (2-2) en route to a 55-28 nonleague win. Hayward quarterbac­k Ramon Barraza threw three TD passes, two to Alzillion Hamilton. … Alhambra’s Payton Barber intercepte­d a Livermore pass late in the fourth quarter, helping the Bulldogs (3-2) to a 23-13 nonleague win over Livermore (2-2). Pinole Valley hasn’t beaten a ranked opponent, but after close calls against Hayward and Benicia to open the season, the Spartans have won their past three games by a combined total of 78 points. … No. 24 El Cerrito (2-2) beat Acalanes (2-3) 32-30 when the Dons missed a 37-yard final goal with 15 seconds to go. No. 11 Wilcox improved to 4-0 overall for the first time since 2005 with a dominating 63-7 victory over Santa Clara (1-3). Paul M. Rosa rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns, and also caught a 31-yard scoring pass. Teammate Gabe Herrera had a team-high 126 yards rushing on seven carries, including two touchdowns.
