San Francisco, San Jose and Fremont are among the top 10 best cities for immigrants, according to a new report by the research organization, New American Economy.

The report measures how well the country’s 100 largest cities integrate new immigrants by analyzing local policies and socioeconomic outcomes. It considered questions such as, “how active are immigrants in a city’s workforce” and “how do law enforcement agencies treat immigrants?”

San Francisco, which ranked fifth, has strong government leadership and community resources for immigrants but could help improve their economic prosperity, according to the report.

San José, which ranked seventh, was recognized for its strong government leadership, economic empowerment, legal support and civic participation. It could improve job opportunities and livability — including health care, housing and education — for its immigrants, the report said. San Jose officials announced the findings Wednesday at a news conference at City Hall.

Recognized for its livability and legal support, Fremont came in ninth.

New American Economy is a bipartisan research and advocacy organization that advocates for federal, state, and local immigration policies that help grow the economy, according to its website.
