Bills’ McCoy calls abuse allegations ‘ridiculous’

- News service reports

Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy said allegations that he abused his 6-year-old son were “ridiculous” and being made by people attempting to further their own agendas.

“These people honestly have so much to gain by doing this,” McCoy said after practice Wednesday. “But I’m not going to sit here and spend too much time even talking about it. It’s crazy. It’s ridiculous. Everything I do is for my little man, my son. And If I didn’t care, I wouldn’t be fighting for custody of my boy.”

McCoy’s comments came a day after he was called “a monster” by his son’s mother in a three-page document filed in Fulton County State Court in Georgia. Stephanie Maisonet said her son would often come home crying and with bruises after visiting McCoy, allegations he denied.

Maisonet also said in the court papers that she initially agreed to defend McCoy against allegations of abuse made by his ex-girlfriend in July even though she said she knew the accusations to be true. She said she reluctantly agreed to the deal only after McCoy offered to drop a custody case.

McCoy called Maisonet’s allegations “provably false, outrageously inaccurate and offensive” in a message he posted Tuesday on his Instagram and Twitter accounts.

On Wednesday, McCoy said he won’t let Maisonet’s comments affect him.

“In this world with social media, you could say what you want, the cameras and everybody will take it and run with it,” he said.

“I can’t control that. The only thing I can control is being a great dad,” McCoy added. “I love my son. Anybody that knows me or ever sees me around with my boy, they know what type of relationship we have.”

UBER DRIVER SUES BUCCANEERS’ WINSTON >> A female Uber driver in Arizona is suing Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston, accusing him of sexual assault.

Court documents said the woman filed the suit in Arizona on Tuesday and is seeking more than $75,000 in damages. She said Winston grabbed her crotch in the drive-thru of a Mexican restaurant in March 2016.

After an investigation into the incident, the NFL in June suspended Winston for three games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. BENGALS’ RUN GAME DEPLETED >> Giovani Bernard is the last veteran running back standing for Cincinnati, and even he was limited in practice.

The Bengals (2-0) head to Carolina (1-1) with Bernard as their only experienced back who knows their system. No. 3 back Tra Carson was waived after suffering a hamstring injury in practice. The Bengals signed freeagent running back Thomas Rawls,

who was released by the Jets at the end of training camp.

TOMLIN DISCIPLINES BROWN >> Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said receiver Antonio Brown was disciplined for missing a mandatory day of meetings Monday, a misstep that led to an extended sit-down between the two on Tuesday.

“I’ll leave the nature of that conversation between us,” Tomlin said. “There was discipline involved for his missed meeting for Monday. Some of the other things we talked about extensively, he’ll speak for himself in some of those things.”

Tomlin did not outline Brown’s punishment.

EAGLES BRING MATTHEWS BACK >> The Eagles turned to a familiar face to bolster their depleted receivers corps.

The defending Super Bowl champions signed wide receiver Jordan Matthews, reuniting him with close friend Carson Wentz in time for the quarterback’s return from injury.

“We’re excited to get him back,” Coach Doug Pederson said. “He knows our offense. I think it’s huge.”

Mike Wallace was placed on injured reserve after suffering a broken fibula in a 27-21 loss at Tampa Bay. AROUND THE LEAGUE >> Wide receiver Julio Jones, held out of practice with a calf injury, joined the Falcons’ long list of injured players. Running back Devonta Freeman (sore right knee), who missed last week’s win over Carolina, and defensive ends Takk McKinley and Derrick Shelby, who have groin injuries, also did not practice . ... Marcus Mariota wakes up every morning hoping his injured right hand feels better. Unfortunately for the Titans quarterback, the weakness is still there, along with numbness and tingling in two fingers. That’s why Mariota was limited at practice. “I think it’s close, but again we’re going to just take it one day at a time,” Mariota said . ... Browns top receiver Jarvis Landry is questionable to play in tonight’s game against the Jets because of a knee issue.
